If you are new to allotment gardening or have recently taken on a plot, this page is here to help you get started.

You don’t need to have everything perfect from the beginning. Many plot holders start with little experience and learn as they go. The most important thing is to take your time, enjoy the process, and make steady progress.

Getting started

• Start small and focus on one area of your plot
• Clear weeds gradually rather than trying to do everything at once
• Get to know your soil and how it behaves

What to expect in your first season

• It can take time to get your plot fully under control
• You may not grow much in the first year – and that’s completely normal
• Regular visits and small steps make a big difference

Practical information

• Water points are available on site
• Please follow guidance on waste disposal
• Parking is limited, so be considerate of others
• Community workdays are a great way to get involved and meet other plot holders
