Biodiversity

How Holden Gardens Allotment supports pollinators, wildlife and shared green spaces.

Holden Gardens Allotment home to a wide range of wildlife and plays an important role in supporting local biodiversity within the community.

Across the site, we regularly see a variety of species, including

  • Green woodpeckers
  • Foxes
  • Hedgehogs
  • Frogs and newts
  • Slow worms

These animals rely on the allotment as a safe and natural environment, where they can feed, shelter, and thrive.

Beekeeping is also an important part of life at Holden Gardens Allotment. Our bees help to support pollination across the site, improving plant health and contributing to the overall ecosystem.

As the seasons change, different plants, trees, and hedgerows provide valuable sources of nectar and habitat for wildlife. For example, the hawthorn trees along the allotment boundaries are an important food source for pollinators when they come into bloom.

Protecting and maintaining this space is essential, as it provides a valuable green area for both wildlife and the local community.

This makes the allotment an important green space that should be protected for future generations.
