Members of Holden Gardens Allotment working together on the garden building

Our story

Holden Gardens Allotment has long been part of the Basildon area, with the land historically used for growing and cultivation. Like many allotment sites across the UK, it has evolved over time into a valued space for local residents.

Today, our allotment is a friendly and welcoming community made up of around 60 plots. It provides a place for people to grow their own fruit, vegetables, and flowers, as well as relax and enjoy time outdoors.

Beyond growing, the site plays an important role in supporting local wildlife and maintaining a green space within the community. Plot holders often share knowledge, help each other, and take pride in keeping the site well looked after.

Holden Gardens Allotment is a community-led allotment, managed by a committee and supported by its members. Together, we aim to create a positive, respectful, and sustainable environment for everyone.

Our Community

Holden Gardens Allotment is more than just a place to grow food - it is a friendly and welcoming community.

Our plot holders come from all walks of life, from complete beginners to experienced growers. People share advice, help each other and enjoy spending time outdoors together.

There is a strong sense of community across the site. Whether it is a quick chat over the fence, sharing spare plants or helping a neighbour, everyone plays a part in making the allotment a positive place to be.

It is not just about growing vegetables - it is about enjoying the process, learning something new and being part of a supportive and relaxed environment.

Committee

The allotment is managed by a volunteer committee who help look after the site, support members and keep day-to-day information clear and accessible.

Our Committee

Holden Gardens Allotment is run by a small and dedicated group of volunteers who help keep the allotment organised, welcoming and cared for throughout the year.
